About Qalm
Why We Built This
If you freelance, drive for DoorDash, rent out a property on Airbnb, or do any combination of the above — you've probably wondered: how much of this do I actually owe in taxes?
Most tools focus on filing (once a year in April) or tracking expenses. Nobody answers the year-round question: how much should I set aside right now?
That gap is why Qalm exists. As a CPA, Sanjeet Singh saw the same story every tax season: freelancers and side hustlers owing thousands — not because they didn't care, but because the math was never laid out clearly. So he built a tool that does.
Built by Sanjeet Singh, CPA — Powered by Math
Qalm's tax engine is CPA-verified and tested against over 500,000 automated scenarios — every combination of filing status, income level, income type, and state.
The engine covers all 50 states plus DC with real tax brackets for the top 15 states. It calculates self-employment tax, applies the QBI deduction, runs S-Corp comparisons with realistic admin costs, and handles the 14-day rental rule.
We're a CPA who built a tool — not a tech company that hired a CPA. That difference shapes everything: the accuracy of the math, the plain-English explanations, and the places where we deliberately say "talk to your CPA" instead of pretending a calculator can replace one.
What We're Not
Not a filing service. When it's time to file, use TurboTax, your CPA, or FlyFin. Qalm handles the 11 months in between.
Not an expense tracker. Keeper and Stride are built for that. Qalm takes your total expenses as input and tells you what you owe.
Not a replacement for a CPA. We're the tool you use between CPA visits — to stay informed and avoid surprises.
Our Promise
The free calculator will always be free. No bait-and-switch, no "enter your email to see results."
We will never sell your data. Every number is CPA-verified. And we'll always be honest about what this is: an estimation tool for tax planning, not tax advice.
Qalm provides estimates for planning purposes. This is not tax advice. Consult a qualified tax professional.
